ARTIST PROFILEARTIST STATEMENTArtist Carolyn Dailey paints to express the beauty of the land and its people. A plein air oil painter, Carolyn prefers to work outdoors from nature. Her current work focuses on the majestic mountain landscape of Colorado, the fabulous canyon country of Utah and Arizona, and the charming villages of New Mexico. She also spends part of the year painting along the quiet shores of mystical Lake Atitlan in the western highlands of Guatemala. Peaceful and serene, her paintings bring a glimpse of spirit and wonder to the busy modern world.
BACKGROUNDBorn in the United States, Carolyn has been a professional painter since 1983 and a full-time artist since 1987. Winning awards in art as a child, she studied art and oil painting while earning her college degrees. However, her plein air tradition painting style was most influenced by workshop study with Mark Daily, Michael Lynch and Ned Jacobs at the Fechin Institute of Taos, NM in the early 1990's. During that time New Mexican artist Frank La Lumia was her main mentor. She has exhibited in numerous one-woman and group shows in the United States and Guatemala. Early in her career a painting of "Antelope Canyon" was accepted in the 1984 Juried Invitational Show of the famous Salamungundi Club in New York City. In 1999 she had a one woman exhibition at the national Ixchel Museum in Guatemala City. Her paintings are in the permanent collection of the Public Library in Moab, UT as well as decorate the San Buenaventura Hotel in Panajachel, Guatemala. In 2009 she had paintings in two exhibitions at the Denver International Airport, as well as shows at the Republic Plaza, in Denver, CO. In 2010 she won an "Award of Merit in Oils" at the Escalante Plein Air Festival in Escalante, UT.
